Kuala Lumpur Diary
So here is my Kuala Lumpur Photo Diary. I traveled to Kuala Lumpur in August, saying farewell to the cold and wet rain of Perth and hello to the warm, humid and tropical weather of Malaysia. (Running under cover in the middle of a tropical shower would be something I will miss, amplified by the brief relief of rain on heated skin.) This isn't the first time I've been to Kuala Lumpur, with my mother being from PJ just under an hour away from Malaysia's main hub of food, business and shopping.
Surrounded by giant mega malls and amazing shopping centres just a quick and cheap taxi ride from each other, you tend to forget about the heat outside. The air conditioners are usually on full blast and in Sunway Pyramid with their Egyptian inspired architecture, you can even opt for a quick skate around the ice skating rink they have in the middle of the shopping centre. You can't forget to visit the iconic Petronus Towers or the Hawker Markets held every Sunday and Wednesday night. Always opt to try out street food and hawker stalls if you can help it, the food is rich and full of flavour, although to get the largest servings and more authentic feel you may have to go a little out of the main city and hit some localities.
I didn't get to visit many of the localities this trip or the temples or even Genting Highlands. We did however manage to visiting a couple of towns on its outskirts with an old friend after some poor navigation. Whenever I visit with my mother we often stay in Petaling Jaya for a few days with my uncle in their lovely town house, seek out the shortcuts on the way to the local store and walk along allys behind the backs of houses. As tourists we are missing out on life the way the locals live it. Although you do have to be a little weary around KL, I find that it is just the same as travelling around in any unfamiliar city. Either way, once you've been you'll always want to go back.
