Adding some life to the far end of Oxford street is this little box of coffee and breakfast goodness. Pixel Coffee Brewers is a new addition to an otherwise sleepy side of Leederville. The space is beautiful, minimalist but homely with white walls and tiles that compliment the cups. Small pops of colour can be found in miscellaneous vases of flowers and the food presented in the cabinet at the counter.
Although the overall tones are cool, the large polished wooden tabletops, natural light and cheer from staff add to the the mood of the cafe. Embarrassingly, I can't say anything about the coffee as I for some reason opted for a hot chocolate (I don't understand why either...) but when it's Belgium coveterture I suppose that's reason enough.
The Pumpkin Plate ($18.50) resembled almost everything I associate with winter food. Generous slices of soft pumpkin doned a thick and crispy slice and was topped off with two deliciously poached eggs. How's that for gooey yolk porn? Garnished with parsley and sugary honey coated almonds for texture and crunch, the plate was also served with two cubes of deliciously soft cheese.
The Stormy Mushrooms plate came out showcasing colours of some of the winter days we had been experiencing of late, with fresh enoki mushrooms adding height and dimension. There are sweeter options for breakfast too, such as bircher muesli, acai bowls and french toast.
Don't even get me started on some of the amazing cakes the Pixel team have been rolling out. You have your traditional carrot cake and banana bread, and on other days you have sweet and fanciful concoctions with combinations like coconut and lime in five different layers and honey and chamomile towers of sweetness that are so hard to stay away from.
What I adore about the place is the incredible attention to detail and the quirky little home attributes scattered around the cosy cafe. If you're anything like me with a penchant for prettiness, you also won't get enough of Andy's sweet swan latte art.
Having only been open for four months, Pixel Coffee have already accrued a love from the Perth community, with customers ebbing and flowing in with the pastel blue pixel tide. I will be re-visiting - and next time I'll order coffee.
