MALLS
Most malls are open from 10am to 9pm.
1 Utama
1 Bandar Utama
A go to for locals from Petaling Jaya, 1U as it's often called, is a large shopping complex with a new and an old wing. With over 600 stores and a range of upscale restaurants (as well as two trusty and huge food courts in each wing) 1U has plenty to offer locals and tourists alike. You may just visit for the shopping but also find yourself admiring the largest rooftop garden in South East Asia.
Avenue K
156 Jalan Ampang
Avenue K is situated within the 'golden triangle' (Suria KLCC and the Petronus Towers). Connected directly to the KLCC LRT station located above the mall, Avenue K is as it boasts, the new address for fashion.
Berjaya Times Square
1 Jalan Imbi
Berjaya Times Square is one of the biggest malls in the Buki Bintang area. It's also home to the largest Borders Bookstore in the world and also a theme park.
Fahrenheit 88
179 Jalan Bukit Bintang
Funilly enough the name originated from the fact that the average temperature in Malaysia hardly falls below 88 degrees Fahrenheit. For Uniqlo lovers (like me) this is where the Uniqlo flagship store lives in Malaysia.
Empire Damansara
Jalan SS 16/1 Subang Jaya
IoI City
Lebuhraya Lembah Kelang Selatan
The biggest shopping centre in Malaysia by way of square ft, IoI city is still yet to lease much of its space to vendors. I would only recommend visiting if you would like a scenic drive there, but it's not necessary as all of the stores can be found closer to the Kuala Lumpur.
Lot 10
Cnr Jalan Bukit Bintang and Jalan Sultan Ismail
Visit Lot 10 for a majority of local boutiques and stalls. It's one of the oldest shopping centres in KL.
Low Yat Plaza
7 Jalan Bintang
For the geeky, technological fiend in you, Low Yat Plaza is a twelve storey mall full of gadgets. There are places to eat too!
Mid Valley Mega Mall
2, Kuala Lumpur (Yep, that is it's address. It's so well known among taxi drivers - don't fret)
One of the best places to shop, and to hitch a ride from a taxi from, Mid Valley has an abundance of food, fashion and entertainment. Joined to The Gardens, Mid Valley is one of the best shopping centres to visit in Malaysia.
Nu Sentral
201 Jalan Tun Sambanthan
This eight storey trendy shopping mall is easily accessible near the KL Sentral underdeck.
Pavillion
168 Jalan Buki Bintang
If you're visiting during a holiday season, Pavillion is the place to be. It fully encompases the holiday seasons and decks the halls so to speak. With over 400 stores, some of which are double storey and outside, Pavillion houses high end browsing and a Gourmet Emporium.
Starhill Gallery
Publika
1 Jalan Dutamas, Solaris
Artsy and surrounded by cool eateries, Publika Solaris is a new up and coming shopping centre.
Sunway Pyramid
3 Jalan PJS, 11/15 Bandar Sunway
An awesomely and elaborately Egyptian themed shopping centre, prior to IoI city, it was the only shopping centre with an indoor ice skating rink.
Suria KLCC
Jalan Ampang, Golden Triangle, Kuala Lumpur
You'll have all the shopping you need done here at Suria. Sitting below the twin towers, this shopping centre also houses Aquaria KLCC. The food court is constantly busy but if you're not in the mood for camping for a table, head up to the top two floors for restaurants.
The Gardens
Mid Valley City, Kuala Lumpur
If high-end international designer brands are your thing, look no further than The Gardens. It's elegant, spacious and boasts some amazing restaurants.
MARKETS
Petaling Street/Chinatown
Jalan Petaling
If you are coming to Chinatown in order to get a good price on knock off goods, beware that the prices are usually 15 - 30% higher than what they should be, especailly for tourists. This is the perfect place to practice your haggling. Start low and slowly go up. You can find a whole assortment of items here, from knock off branded bags to the latest releases on Blu-Ray (although they may not work when you get home so I would suggest purchasing these from Speedy, an actual store in many of the shopping centres listed above.)
Central Market
No.10 Jalan Hang Katsuri
A Heritage World Site, Site, the 120 year old Market is split into different zones, by race. The reason they say, is so people can have an insight into each culture and all of the cultural differences and harmonies in Malaysia.
Malaysia Heritage Walk
Hang Katsuri
An open flea market, you can find vendors selling snacks, shirts and traditional foods. During Chinese New Year, the dragon makes it's way down the strip.
